Editing notes
The DSLR that defined a decade of wedding and portrait work. Colour is classic Canon — warm, forgiving on skin — but shadow recovery is noticeably weaker than modern mirrorless, so lifting blacks past about +40 introduces visible magenta noise.
Looks that suit these files: Portra-ish 400, Tri-X-ish 400.
The files it writes
The Canon EOS 5D Mark IV records RAW as .cr2. CR2, not CR3 — this is a DIGIC 6+ body and predates Canon's 2018 format change. That is good news for compatibility: almost every converter ever written reads CR2.
What a .cr3 file actually contains — compression, bit depth, embedded previews and which software reads it.
