Base ISO 64 is the headline: roughly two-thirds of a stop more highlight headroom than an ISO 100 sensor, which is why Nikon landscape files tolerate aggressive highlight recovery that would band on other bodies.

The Nikon Z8 records RAW as .nef. Adds the High Efficiency modes: HE* targets lossless-compressed quality at about a third of the size. The trade is that older software will not open them at all.
