What’s in the file
A photograph carries two separate kinds of metadata, written at different moments by different software, and they answer different questions.
EXIF — written by the camera

Frequently asked questions
How do I see what camera settings a photo was taken with?
Drop the photo here. Cameras write an EXIF block into every file containing the body, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length and timestamp, and this page reads it locally in your browser.
Why does my photo show no EXIF data?
Because something stripped it. Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and most messaging apps remove metadata when you upload, so a picture saved back off social media usually has none left. Screenshots never had any to begin with. If you need the metadata, go back to the original file off the camera or card.
Can I read a Lightroom .xmp sidecar with this?
Yes — drop the .xmp instead of a photo. You get the full develop recipe: exposure and tone, white balance, the point and parametric tone curves, all eight HSL bands, split toning, three-way colour grading, detail settings and every mask with its adjustments.
Does it work with RAW files?
Yes for metadata. RAW files from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Panasonic, Olympus and DNG all carry a standard EXIF block, which is read directly. The image itself comes from the embedded JPEG preview, since browsers cannot demosaic RAW sensor data.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read with the browser's local File API and parsed on your machine. Nothing is transmitted, so this works offline once the page has loaded — and there is nothing for us to store even if we wanted to.
Does EXIF include my location?
It can. If location services were enabled on the camera or phone, the file carries GPS coordinates accurate to a few metres. This tool flags it when it finds them, because sharing an original file also shares where it was taken — worth knowing before you post a photo from home.
